Background:
Liquid Death, known for its bold branding and irreverent humor, has positioned itself as a rebellious alternative to traditional drinks by packaging water in tallboy cans. While soda is marketed as harmless fun despite its health risks, society stigmatizes healthy expressions of sexuality, creating a damaging double standard. Liquid Death aims to challenge these norms, promoting its sparkling water as the go-to for those rejecting societal hypocrisies.
What We found:

“Dopamine, a key neurotransmitter in the brain’s reward system, plays a significant role in sexual behavior, including the development of fetishes.” -National Library of Medicine
“Dopamine has been implicated as a prominent neurotransmitter in the development and pattern of addiction and impulsivity, especially in regard to substance use disorder.”- Health Psychology Research
“Sugar causes dopamine levels to rise, creating a positive, happy feeling when it is ingested”- MAC Clinical Research
These quotes highlight scientifically that dopamine is released in many ways to achieve happiness, including sugar and sex.

Insight: Society glorifies easy but harmful sources of dopamine, yet demonizes healthy behaviors that are deemed “socially unacceptable.”

Strategy: Liquid Death supports harmless taboos
Executions:
- Video concept that starts the campaign and introduces the idea that Liquid Death supports these “taboo” things such as our Bad Boy Ball Gag versus the fact that big soda can rot your teeth.

- Liquid Death Play Pack will be a tangible aspect of the campaign, available on Liquid Death’s website .
- “Would you Rather Series” – this aspect of the campaign will pose questions to consumers in a humorous way, exposing the hypocrisy that big soda companies are more “normal” versus things that are much less harmful.
Aspirations and Applications:
This campaign aims to shift soda consumers’ mindset, encouraging more mindful choices while boldly addressing health and lifestyle taboos. Through provocative messaging and an unapologetic creative direction, it challenged conventional narratives and sparked meaningful conversations around consumption habits. This type of disruptive, culturally attuned strategy can be applied to other brands and companies seeking to break through saturated markets, redefine consumer expectations, and foster deeper brand affinity through authenticity and bold storytelling.
